While Côte de Nuits consists of vineyards located on or close to the main Côte d'Or escarpment, Hautes-Côtes de Nuits covers the area on top of the escarpment, and the adjacent area of various valleys and slopes.

Rich burgundy color with slight browning on the edges. Nose of earth, ripe raspberries and tobacco. Flavors are similar but with the addition of smoke, brown sugar and bay leaf. Slight tartness on the perimeter of the mouthfeel. Delicate in feel, with a finish that dissipates into a slight tartness.
