Constantly picking up gongs for brilliant value for money (Wine Spectator and others), Ciconia Tinto combines approachability with Alentejo's most likeable features of rich, soft fruit, with a bit of roast and dried fruit notes.

Ciconia, for the benefit of non-twitchers, is the latin genus for the stork, and Ciconia Ciconia is the white stork, which so likes to breed in this region.

Portugal’s most popular Douro white wine and it is easy to see why. Vinified from grapes grown at high altitude (Planalto translates as “High Plains”) to retain freshness and delicacy in this hot region, this is a deliciously vibrant wine boasting ripe citrus and floral aromas.

A classic Vinho Verde, with some gentle spritz and medium / medium-dry. It boasts wonderful green-grassy freshness and is thoroughly moreish.

Vinho Verde, the most popular white wine from Portugal, is a deliciously refresing, light wine. "Verde", meaning "Green" refers to the hints of lime colour. It makes a brilliant pairing with any fish, shellfish and poultry.

Red wines from the Dao should always demonstrate a certain succulence from a combination of altitude and granitic soils, but Maias Tinto goes the extra mile. At these even higher vineyards (around 650m), Jaen (Tinta Mencia) captures in the glass delicious crunchy fruit in this medium bodied wine.

Maias is the local name for the Weaver's Broom plant which surrounds the estate here (its yellow flowers blossom in May in this part of Dao, hence its nickname - Maio is the word for May).

100% Tempranillo - rich and powerful.

Beyra tinto offers an unoaked expression of cruncy berry fruit and spice, with super acidity. Less on tannin, more on flavour.

The striking, zesty and green-fruit character in Beyra Branco make it an excellent and high quality introduction to Portugal for people who enjoy aromatic dry whites.

As for other grapes from this region, Avesso produces high acid, crisp wines. Quinta da Raza have produced a wonderful varietal Avesso. It has classic citrus fruit, bringing a bit of zip, lifted white flowers, and a little weight from some time on lees.

The Serra Mãe is made from 100% Castelão, grown on the free-draining, sandy soils West of Palmela. It was naturally fermented (no added yeast), and then subsequently aged, in concrete vats.

A great Douro blend expressing crunchy red fruit, with depth and freshness. On the palate, it is elegantly fruity, with a markedly mineral profile. With a superb drinkability owing to its balance, this wine very much exhibits the uncomplicated style that Niepoort set out to achieve.

A blend of indigenous Portugese grapes from a single vineyard. A seductive combination of black cherries, cinnamon & leathery aromas. The palate is both peppery & smooth with ripe mulberry fruit & cedar overtones giving plenty of length.

One of Quinta do Mouro's two 'second' wines, 'Vinha' is much more approachable than Quinta do Mouro, but is still forged in the fire of classic Alentejo.
Trodden grapes, but temperature controlled fermentation, and aged without oak.

Often quoted as the standard bearer for this variety in Portugal, Luis Cerdeira is the surest pair of hands south of the Minho with Alvarinho.
Soalheiro’s Alvarinho 'classico' is, vintage after vintage, consistently bursting with vibrant, sun-drenched fruit and fresh minerality.
Not your standard Vinho Verde, these wines can live for years, too.

An unbelievable Douro red - all big powerful fruit, chocolate and earth and dark toffee.

After spending 10 months in French oak, this field blend from an average of 90 year old vines is floral and citrus on the nose with a lovely lifted hint of honey and vanilla. Rounded and fresh and balanced and delicious.

Combining the best bits of each grape, along with the influence of such amazing terroir. Bright and zippy, citrus and floral, mineral and textured, fresh acidity and mild salinity.

Based on purely Viosinho grapes on schist soils, the Meruge Branco is fermented and aged in new Portuguese oak barrels. With the structure and complexity displayed, this is a wine with an enormous potential for ageing.

A Bairrada single-vineyard classic. Luís flagship single vineyard Baga. To better display the character of the region, this wine is made from a single vineyard called Vinha da Panasqueira.

Located just outside the walled town of Estremoz, this 22 hectare estate is referred to by eRobertParker as the "Jewel of the Alentejo."

Wine exclusively produced from Baga grapes with green harvest at the beginning of August.
Fermented for 2 weeks in stainless steel vats under temperature control.
Matured for 12 months in new and used Allier oak casks.

A really delicious wine which should replace cheap Prosecco the world over. Lovely sweet-floral fruits on the nose, and a touch of toasty / biscuit character. Dry on the palate, but not too Brut, tasting of apples and fresh lemons.
