Tasting Note

Patrick and Chantel Gibault are the owners of Vignoble Gibault. Meusnes, a little village nestled in the Cher river’s hillsides, invites the stroller to discover its gently rolling vineyards, its enticing wines, its picturesque gun flint museum and a remarkable 11th Roman church. Here, the soils are composed either of sand and clay, or flint clays locally named “perruches”. Flint absorbs the heat during day-time and radiates the vine at night-time. There the vine has to root deeply through the flint to find its food, hence the strong mineral character of the wines. The climate is semi-continental with oceanic influx: i.e. alternatively dry and mild during summer, and mild and wet the rest of the year. The vineyard covers 30 ha, the vines rows are grass covered to prevent erosion. The pruning method used for red grapes is: short goblet, for the whites: single Guyot. Red grapes encompass 40% of the stock, whites 60%. The grapes are mechanically harvested and de-stemmed to avoid herbaceous flavours. The grapes are picked when fully ripe and made into wine using the modern techniques of temperature control. The priority is to extract a maximum of fruit and just the right amount of tannin to produce a perfect structure… so that the wine remains a pleasure. Wine and vineyard are a way of life for Meusnes’ winegrowers who like hills where they can find plenty of flint, only in this part of Touraine.
This award-winning Sauvignon Blanc is highly aromatic and deeply flavored, totally expressive of its terroir and with a great roundness as well.
