Browse by Grape - Tannat
One of the few red grapes with red pulp as well as skin. This gives the resultant wine a bigger tannic structure. It forms the basis for the wines of Madiran which are traditional slow-burning age worthy wines. Although mainly found in France (and starting to decline in acreage) it is also found in Uruguay and Argentina.

This Domaine Horgelus red wine is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Tannat, the latter being a local grape variety making rich and powerful reds. The wine has a fabulous concentration with aromas of blackcurrant, licquorice and spices. On the palate it has soft, ripe tannins to support the dark fruit flavours. Smooth and deeply flavoured it is the ideal accompaniment to grilled or roast meats and soft cheeses.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat

On the nose red berries and spice, complemented by nuts and a hint of oak; on the palate notes of liquorice are detectable. A big brute of a wine, the mighty Tannat takes time to reveal its charms. The tannins can be tempered by double jugging, and a good hour in the Decanter. The results are marvellous.
