Baron Philippe de Rothschild argued for Château Mouton Rothschild to gain promotion in the classed growth hierarchy. In 1973 after many decades of protest Mouton was given Premier Cru status (the only change to the Bordeaux classifications in over 100 years), and rightly so. Many Claret fans regard Mouton as perhaps the greatest of all First Growths.
