Deep ruby colour with a youthful purple hue. The nose is intense and layered, with perfumes of blackberry and prune, smoky minerality, violets and spicy oak notes. Full bodied and powerful, with ripe tannins and rounded silky texture. Ripe, blackberry perfumes on the long, spicy finish.

This exquisite and superb-value wine has a fine, elegant nose of fresh red-cherry fruit and sweet spice, and a perfumed bouquet with hints of pot pourri, raspberry tea and red liquorice. The acidity – one of López de Heredia’s trademarks – is astonishing, as is its complexity and freshness, while the finish is enduring, mouthcoating and intense.

The deep crimson-coloured 2006 Quinta Sardonia gives up an aromatic array of cedar, Asian spices, incense, and blackberry. Savoury and supple on the palate, it has enough underlying structure to evolve for 2-3 years and should be at its best from 2012 to 2026.

The fruit for this cuvée is sourced from three vineyards on Seneca Lake. The vines range from 20-40 years old in age. Naturally fermented in a combination of neutral French oak and stainless steel. The wines are then aged on the gross lees until bottling the following summer.
