Founded in 1969 in the gold mine area of Bendigo in Victoria. Although the area under vine is comparatively small (only around 33 hectares) the quality is very high as the folks at Balgownie are able to select fruit very carefully.

Balgownie was bought by the Forrester family, the present owner, in 1999 from Mildara Blass, thus returning it to private ownership.
