Domaine Chante-Cigale has been in the hands of the Favier-Sabon family for generations and is one of the oldest in the region, occupying some 40 hectares comprised of different parcels of land around the village of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, located between Orange and Avignon.
Recently Christian Favier the father released the reins to his son, Alexandre, who at 22 years old, looks entirely too young to be making such impressive wines.
The wines of the Domaine can be considered as classic, wellmade, reasonably priced Châteauneufs.
The soils of the vineyard are made up of clay and chalk covered with a layer of the classic large peebles ('galets') found in this area, which naturally keep yields low. The grapes undergo a traditional long 'cuvaison' at quite high temperature and with extended maceration on the skins, all to extract plenty of colour, fruit and tannins.
