This wine is a stunner, a blend of 55% Shiraz and 45% Grenache. The Shiraz provides the backbone of the wine, while the Grenache lends elegance and perfume.

Ripe cherries and a dusty smokiness on the nose precede a palate full of liqorice, spice & pepper with a blackcurrant edge. Great structure and a fruity finish.

This unusual blend of grapes is full of rich, juicy fruit with a spicy finsh. Much more interesting than most auzzie wines at this level (and higher) that we have seen for a long time. Great value and one that we thouroughly recommend.

Parcels of both Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz were harvested from a
range of suitable blocks during March and April. Some cooler sites
were used for Cabernet Sauvignon to enhance this part of the blend
profile, while the ripe, juicy Shiraz adds tannin and spice. Individual
vineyard blocks were fermented separately, using a range of different
techniques for complexity. The wine was matured in French and
American oak barrels for about 11-14 months.

The palate is full bodied, meaty and complex – well integrated oak and tannin provide elements of structure to the wine and it finishes with impressive length.

The palate is rich with elegant wild berry fruit flavours and has fine integrated tannins with excellent structure and length.

Amazingly drinkable for a wine of this seniority. Unobtrusive tannins and a rich spicy finish.

On the nose and the palate, it demonstrates a distinctive Syrah character with spiciness and hints of strawberries, rose and orange peel. With good fruit concentration, it shows richness in texture across the palate that leads to a delightfully long finish. It has a strong backbone of acidity and a slight amount of tannin that gives the wine a defined structure.

The 2009 Tamaya Syrah Reserva is composed of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier. It was aged in both French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks.
