This St Emilion Grand Cru really hit the mark in 2018 with 97 points from James Suckling. From a great vintage, this claret, aged in new oak, is "sleek and tight with crunchy berry, mineral and zesty notes on the finish. Complex". Worth tucking away.

A blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Dense ruby/purple, with notes of blueberry pie interwoven with charcoal, liquorice, some chalky crushed rocks and a distinctive floral note. This wine shows a deep red colour with shades of ruby on the rim of the glass. To the nose, at the time of release, it revealed a delicate balance between ripe red berry aromas and those of spices and smokiness. Over time, the bouquet has grown more complex, showing aromas of leather, coffee beans and raisins. Mouthfeel is as firm, elegant and smooth as one should expect from a Rioja Gran Reserva, with a surprisingly long and fresh finish.
