Home of what are considered to be the world's greatest white wines, all of which are made from Chardonnay. Some Aligote is grown but the resultant wine is poor incomparison with the best whites of the area. High quality reds are also made, from Pinot Noir; these wines are a little softer in general than those of the Côte de Nuits, barring Pommard, which tens to be the fullest of all Burgundian reds. The most famous vineyards are Corton-Charlemagne, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Aloxe-Corton.

Pommard, that sonorous name, generous and evocative of an iconic Burgundy village and vineyard. Located between Beaune and Volnay, Pommard wines are the very symbol of Burgundy red wines and, since the Middle Ages, a benchmark, "The Flower of the wines of Beaune".
