Browse by Region in Spain - Priorat
The home of possibly Spain's most intense and powerful red wines - the mimimum strength required for D.O status is 13.5%!
The mountainous area is very tricky to grow vines in and as a result there are only about 1000 hectares of production. Indigenous varieties are Grenache (Garnacha) and Carignan (Cariñena), but a good proportion of Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah can be found. These are usually used in blends in order to add complexity to the more traditional rustic styles of wines of the region.
