Browse by Grape - Monastrell
It was originally assumed that Spain's Monastrell grape was a local variant of Mourvèdre, but this has now been disputed. It is found mostlu on the Mediterranean coast in regions such as Jumilla. It needs a Mediterranean climate to mature properly. It has very dark berries which makes intense wines with good tannins that soften when aged. It is often used in blends with velvety varieties such as Garnacha.
