Browse by Grape - Tempranillo
Without doubt Spain's greatest grape, and the one which forms the basis of most Rioja. A good grape to age but one which can be accessible early, and although frequently blended with other varieties (such as Garnacha, Carignan, Monastrell, Viura) it can achieve a pure fruited and spice-driven wine when used on its own (often in the Ribera del Duero region). Through the outstanding quality found in many of Ribera del Duero's top reds Tempranillo is starting to take a grip on vineyards all over the world. Also known as Tinto Roriz (and Aragonez!) in Portugal, Tinto Fino in the Ribera del Duero region, Tinto de Pais in Toro, and Cencibel in la Mancha (you could almost write a book on the varying names for Tempranillo!).

"Possibly the single greatest dry red wine value in the world, this is an unbelievable wine … any wine retailer worth his weight should be stockpiling this wine next to the cash register ...I don’t understand how anyone can make wines this good to sell at this price… 90 points.” Robert Parker, the Wine Advocate #203.
