What is unique about Franschhoek is the high but good acidity, according to winemaker Ryan Puttick. Expressive tropical aromas tinged with capsicum open up to attractive Cape gooseberry, grapefruit and pineapple fruit flavours balanced by a lively but gentle coated acidity that follows through to a beautifully fresh finish of pleasing length. A hint of Semillon adds breadth and fills the mid-palate.

The nose reveals notes of citrus zest, candied fruit and flowers combined with hints of dried apricot along with slight notes of spice and minerality. The palate is fresh, balanced, mineral and offers a good tension. In the mouth it expresses notes of citrus zest, green lemon zest and slight notes of apple, dried apricot and peach. Good length on the finish.

NOTE THIS IS A HALF BOTTLE (37.5CL) This Sauvignon Blanc is pale straw with lemon hues. Lifted aromas of passion fruit and guava dominate the nose, along with notes of citrus and crushed herbs and an underlying wet stone minerality. The wine has vibrant acidity, with plenty of palate weight and length. Ripe, tropical fruit flavours of passion fruit, melon and grapefruit linger on the persistent finish.

A parcel of attractively ripe, textural Sem Sauv, showing some evolution but still holding up well thanks to the quality of old vine Semillon, 30% naturally fermented, and extended ageing on lees before bottling. Excellent wine for the money.
