Krohn are a small family-owned Port house run by brother and sister Jose and iolanda Carneiro.

A diminutive port to sit alongside your cheese board in handy half-bottle format. A staple from the ever-dependable Niepoort. Ruby is the brighter, slightly sweeter fruit-driven style that provides that warm hug of luscious, raisined fruit.

A half bottle of the last of the Niepoortland trio which is a series inspired by Lewis Carol's Alice in Wonderland. White Rabbit is Dirk's white port; a fresh fruity expression with a nutty finish that is amazing on a hot summer day served over ice with a splash of tonic.

With its brilliant red appearance and brick red hues on the rim, the wine offers refined aromas of cherries along with a subtle perfumed floral character as well as superb finesse. Essentially the wine is elegant in style, however, the palate presents somewhat of an enigma – initially the fruit and elegance on the nose comes through on the palate, but with gentle extract. It is superbly balanced and fresh, culminating in a somewhat robust and firm finish with a tannic grip. It will be interesting to see this wine develop as it ages, undoubtedly, in a very elegant manner.

Rich and full Ruby Port with a smooth, soft finish.

A fine old traditional style, produced from Tinta Negra, aged for 5 years in old French oak. Terrific as an aperitif served lightly chilled. Lots of interest here, sweet seville orange, some almonds finished with a zing of acidity. A bargain.

Late Bottled Vintage Ports are an increasingly popular style and this unfiltered wine from Krohn is no exception. LBV's are produced from just a single year's crop (but not every year) and with the vintage specified on the bottle, each LBV will express the particular characteristics of that vintage.

NOTE: THIS IS A HALF BOTTLE (37.5CL) The wine displays a beautiful, brilliant chestnut colour with russet hints. Its incredibly intense and rich aromas feature dried fruit, candied fruit and caramel. The palate offers a smooth and fresh mouthfeel, carried by a beautiful acidity and distinct notes of dried fruit, culminating in a very long, elegant and velvety finish.

99 pts Revista de Vinhos - This wine’s appearance impresses with its wonderful deep purple rim, violet glints and beautiful, intense colour. The nose is delicate, elegant and incredibly sophisticated, with floral notes of violets mingling with aromas of graphite, liquorice and blackberries. The true style and potential of this wine show themselves in a perfect interplay between the aromatics and structure; in the harmony between body and elegance, culminating in a spicy finish which is drier than one would expect. This is probably one of the best Vintage Ports of the past 10 years – its structure, acidity, sweetness and beautifully balanced tannins promise excellent ageing potential.
