The gout-de-terroir is strong in this wine. The ageing on its lees in oak is only used to enhance the wine, make it bigger and more intense without interfering with the grape variety’s characteristics. The wine is cherry red with a violet rim and a thick body. Extremely elegant nose with hints of chocolate and liquor integrated with the Mencía’s red fruit. Sourced from vineyards over 50 years old, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 24 months in American oak. The nose has a great intensity of deep blackcurrant fruits with notes of vanilla and leather. Complex, well structured and persistent on the palate with smooth tannins.

This exquisite and superb-value wine has a fine, elegant nose of fresh red-cherry fruit and sweet spice, and a perfumed bouquet with hints of pot pourri, raspberry tea and red liquorice. The acidity – one of López de Heredia’s trademarks – is astonishing, as is its complexity and freshness, while the finish is enduring, mouthcoating and intense.

Tomas Postigo has made with his name in Ribera del Duero mainly as the ex winemaker of Pago De Carraovejas. Tempranillo (Tinta Fina) 85%, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot, and aged for 12 months in new French oak is a very high quality wine. Big dark prune like fruit with a real meat edge this is a blockbuster of a wine.

The deep crimson-coloured 2006 Quinta Sardonia gives up an aromatic array of cedar, Asian spices, incense, and blackberry. Savoury and supple on the palate, it has enough underlying structure to evolve for 2-3 years and should be at its best from 2012 to 2026.

Only made in the finest years, this ultra-traditional Rioja is much sought after.

McManis Family Vineyards Zinfandel is a dark purple wine, loaded with notes of ripe red currant, strawberry, caramelized sugar, and toasty oak. The savory red fruit on the palate leads to soft, supple tannins and a smooth finish.

Vivid purple in colour, with aromas of full toned Blackberry and Boysenberry. Caramel and Toffee are evident in the bouquet, as well as a Chocolate oak profile. The wine is substantial, yet has a rich soft cream texture of mocha. Very elegant and full of ripe black fruit flavors of Blackberry and Blueberry. These fruit flavors are savored in the lingering mouthwatering finish.

Dark garnet in colour with a bouquet that is full of dark berry fruit, such as Blueberry, Blackberry and Black Cherry. Oak aging has contributed just a hint of smoke to the nose. The round, creamy wine delivers an abundance of the fruit flavours promised by the olfactory. The fruit and oak are well integrated and the complexity of the wine plays on the tongue long after the wine has been ingested.
