Domini de la Cartoixa Formiga (Ants Prio 2020
Tasting Note
Aged for 8 months in French and American oak barrels. Formiga’s first impressions on the nose remind us of wines undergoing carbonic maceration, when notions of cherries and strawberry candy come to the fore; a good swirl of the glass will allow the aromas to develop so that aniseed and figs appear. Somewhat unusually, Formiga releases the smell of black pepper and stalks, very much in common with certain wines from the Côtes du Rhône. The bouche is flavoursome and concentrated, with an appreciable amount of excellent maturity coming over perfectly well; just the right level of maturity, Atlantic-textured (subtle and smooth) expressing elegance and freshness. Formiga is a wine that gently soothes the palate!
